Earth Valley, planned and designed by MMD for Owakudani Station on the Hakone Ropeway, has been selected for the TECTURE AWARD 2025 Longlist.
This project, Earth Valley, was conceived not as a place merely to “view” Hakone’s natural landscape, but as a museum-like space where visitors can truly “experience” it.
The project was selected by ambassador Seiichi Saito, founder of Panoramatiks. In his comments, he described it as a design that creates new value in a place people usually pass through, noting that one of the roles of architecture and structures is to create new perspectives on places we think we know well.
Although the project did not go on to receive the final award, we are deeply honored to have received this recognition.
